What it looks like to be a part of a

Parent Cooperative Preschool

At our parent-cooperative preschool, families are more than just participants — they’re partners.

By sharing in the daily operations, decision-making, and classroom involvement, families help teachers to create a nurturing, responsive environment where children thrive.

This cooperative model not only keeps tuition affordable and our community close-knit, but it also enriches the learning experience through deep family engagement, mutual support, and a shared investment in every child’s success.

Family Responsibilities

Family Responsibilities *

As part of your commitment to our parent cooperative, each family is required to fulfill a set of responsibilities in order to remain enrolled at Start Here! Preschool.

Active participation from every family is essential to the success and operation of our program.

  • As part of our cooperative model, each family plays an active role in the life of the classroom. Parents work regularly in the classroom on a rotating schedule — supporting teachers, engaging with students, and becoming part of the daily magic of play-based learning.

  • Every family participates in one weekend cleaning per year to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our children.

  • We expect that one adult per enrolled student attend one Board Meeting in September, October, November, or December.

These early meetings offer a great chance to:

Learn how our parent-run board supports the school and teachers.

Understand your role in our co-op community.

See how decisions are made and how you can be involved.

  • Our cooperative thrives on shared leadership. By joining the Board, parents have the opportunity to collaborate closely with fellow members and our Lead Teacher/Program Director to help guide the direction of the school.

Board members play a vital role in shaping policies, supporting staff, and ensuring the long-term health and vision of our community. It’s a meaningful way to contribute, grow your leadership skills, and make a lasting impact.

  • As part of our cooperative model, all families are expected to actively participate in preschool fundraisers. This helps keep tuition low and supports essential school needs. Participation may include selling tickets or items, volunteering at events, or helping organize fundraising efforts.
